Zainab Boladale is an award-winning journalist, TV presenter, and author known for her compelling storytelling and dedication to amplifying underrepresented voices. Born in Lagos, Nigeria, and raised in County Clare, Ireland, Zainab’s upbringing gave her a unique perspective on cultural identity, shaping her understanding of people and societal dynamics. This rich tapestry of experiences inspired her to pursue a career in journalism, driven by a passion for crafting narratives that inform, resonate, and inspire.
Zainab made her historic TV debut in 2017 as the first Afro-Irish woman on Irish TV news, presenting RTÉ’s news2day. On the program, she brought global stories to young audiences, setting the stage for her groundbreaking career. Since 2019, Zainab has been a presenter and reporter on RTÉ’s Nationwide, a longstanding factual feature program that highlights stories of resilience, community achievements, and noteworthy events across Ireland.
A natural storyteller, Zainab’s strength lies in building authentic connections with people and fostering an environment where they feel at ease sharing their unique journeys. Her role has taken her across the country, offering her the privilege of witnessing the diverse landscapes and human experiences that define Ireland.
Beyond broadcasting, Zainab is a passionate filmmaker and author. In 2023, her debut short film, Worthy, a poignant queer narrative, premiered at the GAZE International Film Festival. Her writing has garnered recognition over the years, and in 2024, she achieved another major milestone with the release of her debut novel, Braids Take A Day, a heartfelt story aimed at young adult readers. The novel was shortlisted for Best YA Book of the Year at the An Post Irish Book Awards, solidifying Zainab’s reputation as a dynamic and versatile storyteller.
Looking ahead, Zainab aspires to spearhead a presenter-led reality TV series centered around
relatable human experiences or a documentary series exploring facets of Irish society and cultural themes. She envisions hosting a talk show spotlighting individuals with unconventional careers and lives, as well as authoring more books for young adults. Her ambition is fueled by a commitment to creating impactful narratives that inspire and entertain, building a legacy rooted in meaningful storytelling.
