Teresa Mannion is one of Ireland’s most popular broadcasters and has worked across a diverse array of platforms for RTE. She began her career as a children’s television presenter with Youngline in the 1980’s and received a prestigious Jacob’s Award for her natural manner and ability to engage with young audiences.
From there she went on to present other childrens’ programmes including the quiz show Top Club, and a live summer programme for teens called Blockbuster.Teresa also fronted a science programme called Zero for a number of years.
In the early 90’s she worked with CNN in Atlanta, as a news intern. Teresa regularly did live inserts and recorded clips and vox pops in the field as an assistant producer. It was here that she caught the bug for news reporting and returned to Ireland to become a journalist in the RTÉ Newsroom in Dublin. This is where Teresa honed her skills as a reporter across Morning Ireland, Oireachtas TV, Nationwide and all main news bulletins. She moved to RTE Galway in 2007 to work as a Regional Reporter.
It was her dramatic live coverage of Storm Desmond in 2015 in Salthill that turned Teresa into a viral sensation around the world. Her report led to countless memes and remixes along with interviews on shows like Seven Network’s The Morning Show in Australia and The Late Late Show in Ireland. All the major news networks in the US carried coverage of her report.
Teresa’s famous line “don’t make unnecessary journeys” has become an iconic cultural reference point.
Her post viral fame propelled Teresa into taking part in Dancing with the Stars in 2017. Her debut performance was inspired by her weather report. She danced the Tango to the backing of the 1983 Eurythmic’s hit “Here Comes The Rain Again”
Teresa’s weather report is as fresh today as when she reported live in Salthill over a decade ago. She is still an internet phenomenon with lasting cultural impact. She remains in regular demand for commercial activities including advertorial work, event launches and tv and online promotions. Her famous phrase is a much sought after centrepiece in campaigns.
